Robert Erickson, a friend and protégé of the experimental genius and pioneering instructor, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, spent his life exploring the Bauhaus inspired principles - the holistic approach to the unity of the arts and sciences in the service of humanity. Erickson's photographs are ceaselessly inquisitive and experimental. This exhibition centers on the artist's works from the 1940's to the 1960's. They reveal not only Erickson's exquisite sense of design and dedication to craft, but also a humanism and playfulness that informed all his activities and provided the ideal context for his long and fruitful career as an educator. He not only photographed, he created paintings, drawings, sculpture, and prints. He made designs for jewelry, furniture, and toys. He had studied music and voice for decades. He died in 1991, leaving behind a legacy of both art and inspiration.
